The Republic Iceland, known as Lydveldid Island in Icelandic, is a Nordic island nation in the North Atlantic. With a population of around 332,000 and an area of 103,000 km², it’s the most sparsely populated country in Europe. The capital, Reykjavik, and its surrounding areas are home to over two-thirds of the population. Iceland is geologically active, featuring volcanoes, glaciers, and glacial rivers flowing through lowlands. Despite its location just outside the Arctic Circle, the Gulf Stream gives it a temperate climate, though summers remain cool with tundra conditions across much of the country.
